Among Indonesia's OTT landscape, Vidio stands out as a local player who deeply understands local audiences. Its four content pillars distinguish Vidio from others, namely sports, live streaming TV, licensed content, and Vidio originals, where sports and originals play a pivotal role in driving customer stickiness.

Vidio broadcasts popular sports events, including the World Cup, Premier League, UEFA Champions League, NBA, and BRI Liga 1.

Its strong infrastructure also allows Vidio to stream matches to millions of viewers without hassle, earning Vidio recognition from Google and Akamai as one of the best-practicing platforms in APAC.

Besides sports, Vidio likewise believes that local content is also the key to winning the local market, where relevancy is crucial. With this insight, Vidio commits to investing in Vidio originals.

Vidio has collaborated with many of Indonesia’s best actors and filmmakers to produce the best-quality local content and has released more than 70 titles since 2019, establishing Vidio as the leading platform with the most original titles of any OTT in Indonesia.

Google Workspace Results

218% growth in daily active users for sporting content

• Enhances customer loyalty by halving app release times from 4 to 2 weeks

• Supports creative mission by enabling remote brainstorms for 100+ team members

• Streamlines decision making through unified snapshot of objectives and key results

From the Premier League to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and more than 70 popular Original Series, Vidio has grown since inception in 2014 into Indonesia's dominant streaming platform by delivering outstanding viewer experiences. It has surpassed global industry giants in the archipelago nation of 270 million people through a business model that adapts nimbly to audience tastes and offers services ranging from sports streaming, critically acclaimed original series, licensed entertainment, and local and international TV channels.

The Over-the-Top (OTT) platform thrives on the ability to launch live campaigns, special events and unique mobile app features for a varied and dynamic user experience. This entertainment mission requires close coordination across diverse teams such as product development, engineering and marketing.

With nimble action essential in delivering real-time satisfaction, Vidio needs the most versatile productivity solution available to bring together teams in hybrid work environments on developing new content and product offerings. Working with partner PointStar, Vidio embarked on a Google Workspace migration and gained a unified suite of tools to transform its ability to delight viewers with a regular stream of offerings, with a special emphasis on popular global sporting events.

"Our future depends on the speed at which we can innovate in the live streaming space," Ismail Hasbullah, Vice President of Operations at VIDIO. "Google Workspace enables us to unleash creative energies by helping teams across divisions work together anywhere, anytime."

Driving an innovation roadmap for the future of Indonesian live streaming

For its success, Vidio relies upon what it calls quarterly roadmap planning for its streaming offerings where different units such as product development and engineering must come together to chart the course of the upcoming three months. In addition, Vidio also organizes ad hoc events that the team must rush to prepare within days to stage a successful rollout.

With Google Meet, Vidio conducts campaign kick-off and brainstorm sessions and quarterly roadmap planning presentations across multiple divisions with 100+ members in a fluid and dynamic manner. Vidio finds this to be a more effective alternative to in-person meetings, due to several important features.

One key advantage Hasbullah cites is connectivity to third-party apps to seamlessly brainstorm ideas. Next, he says the team benefits from polling to vote on best ideas to execute, and the ability to send reactions on presentations without disrupting the session. Lastly, he says minutes-of-meeting automation is crucial to providing a reviewable record of the brainstorm.

"For creative collaboration in a hybrid environment, Chat and Meet become invaluable tools for the team to come together in real-time to develop new features for our desktop, mobile app and TV app, personalizing user interface based on viewer behavior," says Hasbullah. "With Google Workspace tools to help us collaborate more efficiently, we've been able to help increase our daily active users in sporting content by 218 percent during the FIFA World Cup in 2022."

Reducing product release cycles through creative deployment of Sheets

"Our dynamic, collaborative and intuitive project tracker built on Sheets enables us to streamline the process of launching new offerings and content smoothly. We're able to address problems before they happen, progressing swiftly to launch." – Ismail Hasbullah, Vice President, Operations, Vidio

Before adopting Google Workspace, Vidio experienced app release cycles of one per month. Unsatisfied with this pace, the platform began using Slides to compile what is needed to be delivered for each release, and Sheets as a unified project tracker for progress of product innovation and event organization, with the project timeline monitored on a weekly basis on a single Sheet for discussion and evaluation.

In the past, the team encountered difficulty discovering the root cause of delays in app release, with information distributed across different files and documents. The unified Sheets tracker enabled all teams to detect the cause and address it, as well as gain a pinpointed view on which project areas are behind schedule. This allowed the team to be on the same page with clear directions on status, updates and next steps.

"Our dynamic, collaborative and intuitive project tracker built on Sheets enables us to streamline the process of launching new offerings and content smoothly," says Hasbullah. "By allowing team members to anticipate and overcome potential obstacles, we're able to address problems before they happen, progressing swiftly to launch."

As a result, Vidio has been able to reduce its release cycles for new apps to its mobile platform from more than a month in 2019 to two weeks. The use of Slides, Sheets, and Meet for weekly hybrid engagement also helped Vidio coordinate across divisions on daily feature deployment, with two deployments per day now the norm.

According to Hasbullah, faster release times enabled by Sheets drives even more innovation, thanks to the speedier feedback Vidio can obtain from viewers. "Halving our release times benefits us by delivering greater flexibility to address user needs and business needs, crucially bringing faster user feedback on new product launches to spur a virtuous cycle of innovation," says Hasbullah.

He adds that Sheets benefits Vidio in another key way, which is fighting content piracy. For every sporting match, there are hundreds of links that need to be taken down on multiple platforms. Sheets helps Vidio track the links and makes the process more efficient by not needing to double check each account.

Streamlining strategic planning to boost MAU with powerful presentations on Slides

"Google Workspace gives us unified tools we can leverage to drive a coherent vision across top management. This makes decision making at the highest levels of leadership more efficient, so we can be more agile as a corporation." – Ismail Hasbullah, Vice President, Operations, Vidio

All of the collaborative efforts come together in pooling the project developing and campaign organization into a strategic program to achieve targets for increasing monthly active users (MAU), which have grown from roughly 4,000 in its first year to more than six million.

For this goal, Vidio leverages Slides to create a coherent rundown of platform data to discuss with top management for execution of strategic planning. This gives all members of the leadership team the same understanding of the situation. Vidio's strategic leadership is thereby able to input the next action items in Tasks so they can be addressed one-by-one in the mission to increase MAU.

"Google Workspace gives us unified tools we can leverage to drive a coherent vision across top management," says Hasbullah. "This makes decision making at the highest levels of leadership more efficient, so we can be more agile as a corporation."

A powerful partnership to optimize Google Workspace features and facilitate onboarding

Vidio and PointStar collaborate closely to identify what Vidio must do to improve the efficiency of their work with Google Workspace. Together with PointStar, Vidio can maximize the use of Google Workspace Enterprise for operational efficiency, by developing best practices for features ranging from Sheets to Drive and Tasks.

PointStar also provided training for Vidio getting the employees up to speed with Google Workspace features for smoother onboarding, especially those who have been accustomed to working on other productivity solutions. The cloud consultancy was also instrumental in providing Vidio best practices for optimizing Workspace DLP, a critical factor in ensuring the security of its platform and protecting it from breaches that would harm its competitive edge.

Overall, Vidio no longer worries about the security of company files and data as Google Workspace Enterprise ensures that user data remains safe and protected. The storage solution using Google Drive securely stores files with features such as data loss prevention and automatic backup.

"There's no limit to the dynamic solutions we can build on Google Workspace," says Hasbullah. "Working with Pointstar, we're able not only boost our operational efficiencies but develop the future of video streaming in Indonesia and beyond with peace of mind."
